The Next Generation of Family Business Forum

Posted on Monday, January 14th, 2019

As we prepare for our third breakfast session of the Advance Iowa’s Family Business Forum Kick-off Series, I wanted to take a minute to thank you for being a part of our community. It’s been an amazing experience thus far, we’ve met some remarkable Iowa business families, and we are grateful for your participation.

Our January 25th session is dedicated to the topic of developing the next generation of family leadership. We will be featuring a panel of next generation leaders of Iowa companies who will be sharing their experiences. One of our speakers, Emily Schmitt from Sukup Manufacturing had this to say about the Family Business Forum, “Continuing the work of the company my grandfather founded is an incredible privilege, but family business comes with its unique challenges as well. I appreciate UNI FBF serving as a centralized, independent resource whose focus is family businesses. It acknowledges that a family business has a distinctive perspective, and it’s so valuable to have a forum to share best practices and solutions with others who share that perspective. Just as important is that it comes from the same perspective being rooted in Iowa. That understanding of Iowa culture is important for advice to be successful.”

Looking forward to 2019-2020, I am excited to share...

We are gearing up for an even bigger program in order to meet the complex needs of families at all stages of business and ownership life cycles. This spring we will be hosting a day long event at an iconic Iowa family business as well as a few other programing surprises.

Our Breakfast Series will continue featuring an expanded schedule of sessions. If you have requests for speakers or topics – please send me a note!

In addition to our Breakfast Series, we’ll also be launching a Next Generation Peer Group. We’ve heard from many of you that you’d like to be a part of it or send a family member. If you’d like to reserve a spot for you or a family member, please call or email me any time. More details will be coming soon.

We want our programming to reflect your interests, so please let us know how we can improve and what you would like to see us offer.

We hope you have a great 2019 and we’ll see you on the 25th!
